Mitsubishi Heavy Industries or Mitsubishi Electric? They are two different manufacturers with different parts, controllers and error codes. Check the badge on your indoor unit before booking so we bring the correct spares.

MHI installation in Brisbane

  • Free on-site assessment and heat-load sizing — room area, ceiling height, glazing, insulation and orientation, so the system dehumidifies properly through a Brisbane summer.
  • Wall split installation — Bronte and Avanti series, back-to-back or long pipe runs, wall brackets or ground pads with anti-vibration mounts.
  • Multi-split installation — one SCM outdoor unit driving 2–6 indoor heads, ideal for townhouses and homes with narrow side setbacks.
  • Ducted installation and zoning — FDUA/FDU ceiling-space units, insulated flexible ductwork, motorised zone dampers, controller placement and roof-space access planning for older Queenslanders.
  • Cassettes, ceiling-suspended and floor consoles for offices, shops, clinics and rooms without usable wall space.
  • Electrical works — dedicated circuit, isolator, switchboard check, and a compliance certificate at handover.
  • Wi-Fi commissioning — MHI Smart M-Air app setup and walkthrough.
  • Old unit removal with legal refrigerant recovery.

MHI repairs

Common MHI faults in Brisbane homes

  • Not cooling or blowing warm air — refrigerant leak, dirty coil, failed capacitor or compressor
  • Water leaking from the indoor unit — blocked condensate drain, dirty barrel fan, iced coil
  • Run light flashing an error code and the system shutting down
  • Outdoor unit silent — contactor, capacitor, fan motor or inverter PCB
  • Rattling or grinding indoor fan bearing
  • Musty mould odour from the coil and blower
  • Remote or wired controller unresponsive
  • Inverter and control board damage after storms or power surges
  • Ducted systems: one zone not cooling, failed zone motor, collapsed or disconnected duct

Typical MHI error indications

Code

Meaning

Typical fix

E5

Indoor–outdoor communication error

Interconnect wiring or PCB

E6

Indoor heat-exchanger sensor fault

Thermistor replacement

E7

Indoor return-air sensor fault

Thermistor replacement

E9

Drain / float switch trip

Clear drain, pump or switch

E35 / E36

High pressure or discharge temp protection

Clean condenser, check charge

E37 / E38

Outdoor sensor fault

Sensor replacement

E42

Compressor current protection

Compressor, PCB, blocked airflow

E48

Outdoor fan motor fault

Fan motor or capacitor

E57

Insufficient refrigerant

Leak test, repair, regas

If your MHI is showing E57 or E35, turn it off. Running it low on gas or against high pressure risks the compressor.

MHI servicing and maintenance

  • Filter clean or replacement, including allergen and deodorising filters where fitted
  • Chemical or pressure clean of the indoor coil, barrel fan and casing
  • Drain tray flush, drain line clear and antibacterial treatment
  • Outdoor condenser coil wash and fin comb (important on the bayside where salt corrodes coils)
  • Refrigerant pressures, superheat and subcooling checks, plus leak inspection
  • Electrical testing — amp draw, capacitors, contactors, terminal tightness
  • Airflow and temperature-split verification
  • Ducted systems — zone motor operation, duct joints, plenum and insulation check
  • Written condition report with photos and recommendations

Frequency: every 12 months for splits, every 6 months for ducted, commercial, coastal or pet-household systems.

MHI models and ranges we support

  • Wall splits — Bronte (SRK…ZSA-W), Avanti / Avanti Plus (SRK…ZSP-W, ZRA), Bronte Deluxe, plus older SRK ZMP, ZJP and ZJ-S series
  • Ducted — FDUA and FDU inverter ducted, FDUM compact ducted / bulkhead
  • Multi-split — SCM40, SCM60, SCM71, SCM80 and SCM100 outdoor units with mixed indoor combinations
  • Cassettes — FDT 4-way and FDTC compact cassettes
  • Ceiling-suspended and floor consoles — FDE under-ceiling, FDFW/SRF floor-standing
  • Light commercial and VRF — KX6 and KXZ VRF systems (service and repair; design by arrangement)
  • Controls — RC-EX3/RC-E5 wired controllers, wireless remotes, Smart M-Air Wi-Fi, zone controllers and BMS interfaces

MHI FAQs

Is Mitsubishi Heavy Industries the same as Mitsubishi Electric?

No. They are entirely separate companies that share the historic Mitsubishi name and logo heritage. Parts, controllers, error codes and warranty terms differ, so it matters which one you have.

Is MHI a good brand for Brisbane?

Yes. MHI units have high energy ratings, quiet indoor operation and cope well with high ambient temperatures. The Bronte range in particular offers strong value against comparable Daikin and Mitsubishi Electric models.

What warranty do MHI systems carry?

MHI residential systems in Australia typically carry a 5-year parts and labour warranty when installed by a licensed installer and registered with the distributor. We complete the registration and give you the paperwork. Damage from missed servicing, blocked drains, storms or surges isn’t covered.

What size MHI unit do I need?

As a guide: 2.5 kW for a bedroom up to 20 m², 3.5 kW for 20–30 m², 5.0–6.0 kW for living areas to 45 m², 7.1–8.0 kW for large open-plan. Brisbane humidity, high ceilings and western glass push this up, so we always confirm with an on-site calculation.

Can I control my MHI from my phone?

Most current Bronte and Avanti models support the MHI Wi-Fi interface and Smart M-Air app for scheduling and remote control. Many older SRK units can be retrofitted — we’ll confirm compatibility from your model number.

Why does my MHI leak water inside?

Usually a blocked condensate drain. Brisbane’s humidity produces a lot of condensate, and dust, mould and insects clog the line so the tray overflows. Switch the unit off to protect ceilings and book a drain clean.

How long does an MHI last?

Typically 10–15 years with annual servicing. Coastal and bayside installations last longer if the outdoor coil is washed and treated each year.

Can you get parts for older MHI models?

Most sensors, capacitors, fan motors and PCBs are still available through Australian distributors. Where a part is obsolete, we’ll tell you honestly whether repair or replacement makes better financial sense.

Which areas do you cover?

All of Brisbane plus Logan, Ipswich, Redlands and Moreton Bay — including Chermside, Aspley, North Lakes, Carindale, Mount Gravatt, Sunnybank, Indooroopilly, Kenmore and Wynnum.
